Farm Animals With Sounds: A Fun Early Years Learning Activity

We have just uploaded this video to Youtube: Farm Animals with Sounds

Farm animals are cute, useful, funny… and sometimes a little clumsy too.

If your child loves animal noises (or you’re trying to encourage more speech and listening), a simple “farm animals with sounds” activity is one of the easiest wins for early years learning.

Have you ever visited a farm… or do you live on one? Either way, farms are full of animals with important roles, and each one has its own sound that children love to copy.

What is a farm?

A farm is an area of land where people grow crops and raise animals to help produce the food we eat every day. Farm animals aren’t like typical pets — they often have “jobs” that help the farm run smoothly.

And those animal sounds? They’re not just cute. Sounds can help farmers and animals communicate, and they help children build early language skills too.

Farm animals your child will hear (and love copying!)

Cows 🐮

Cows are big eaters and spend a lot of the day chewing (they’re experts at it!). On dairy farms, cows produce milk which can be turned into foods like cheese, yoghurt, and ice cream.

Cow sound: Moooooo!

Chickens 🐔

Chickens lay eggs and can produce lots across a year. They also have funny personalities — and a “pecking order” (yes, that’s a real thing!).

Chicken sound: Cluck cluck cluck!

Sheep 🐑

Sheep grow wool, which farmers can shear and send off to become clothing and textiles.

Sheep sound: Baaaaaaa!

And you might spot other farm favourites too, like pigs, ducks, donkeys, and even turkeys.

Simple learning ideas to try after the video

  • Sound guessing game: make a sound (moo / baa / cluck) and let your child guess the animal.

  • Slow it down: pause after each animal and encourage your child to copy the sound.

  • Match the animal to the sound: if you have toy animals or picture cards, let your child “pair” them up.

  • Talk about what they do: “Which animal gives us milk?” “Which one lays eggs?”

These tiny activities build listening, vocabulary, confidence, and attention — without feeling like “work”.
