We are very excited to introduce our handwriting videos. Handwriting starts with writing each letter correctly. Correct letter formation is the foundation to join letters, then form sounds (phonics), then write sentences and paragrpahs. But it all comes down to forming the letter correctly at the start.

More about letter formation for children

Learning to write lowercase letters is one of the most important early-year milestones for children, and it can set the tone for how confident they feel about school and learning in general. Many parents tell me they are unsure how to support handwriting at home: Where should my child start on the line? Are they forming the letter correctly? How does this link to phonics?

This blog post introduces a new series I have created to make that journey simpler for both you and your child. I have put together short, focused videos that show exactly how to write each lowercase letter, step by step. Each video is designed for early years children who are just beginning handwriting, and for parents who want clear visual guidance they can follow at home.

In each clip, you will see how to start the letter, which direction to move, and where to finish. The language I use is simple and repeatable, so you can turn each letter into a little routine. Because good handwriting links closely with phonics, the videos also reinforce the letter sounds your child is learning, helping to connect what they see on the page with what they hear and say.

You will find the videos linked below from Instagram, YouTube, Facebook and TikTok. Choose the platform that suits you best, watch together with your child, and pause as often as you need to practise. Return to them as many times as you like; repetition is key in the early years.

If you are ready to support your child’s phonics and handwriting with clear, calm, practical guidance, start with the first video below and work through the series at your own pace.
